What up guys. I've been reading these forums for years, but posting for the first time. I've got a Galant VR-4 I picked up a couple of months ago (4th one), and it seems to have a decent stereo installed. It looks like it was professionally installed, only this was prolly done back in 1992. The Head Unit was a Pioneer Premier Tape deck, with a CD Changer in the trunk, along with an XTR-12 hooked up to a Sony XM-6020, and an XM-4040 pushing the fronts and rears.
The speakers were some old Pioneers front and rear, with some Quart Mobile tweeters in the dash (old MB's?). But they were all very old and dry-rotted, so I replaced the speakers with some Bostson Acoustics, the Head Unit with a JVC KD-AHD59, and unhooked the Changer.
It appears the Original installer combined the Factory Harness's rear speaker wiring with the fronts (for use on the front speakers), which are directly hooked up to the Sony XM-4040's outputs. Then the rear speakers are also hooked up directly to the XM-4040's outputs.
Both the front and rear speakers source was coming from the Preamp RCA out (labeled "Rear") on the old Pioneer Premier Tape Deck, and on the new JVC KD-AHD59 is coming from the Preamp RCA out (labeled "Front"). I guess the original installer split the Preamp RCA signal either before or after the XM-3 Crossover. I'm not exactly sure on that, as I had originally planned on removing the entire setup, and unhooked all the RCA's.
My question is how should this be hooked up, as far as these RCA Outputs are concerned, in relation to this Coustic XM-3 Crossover? Should I be splitting the RCA out? If so, won't that just duplicate what is output front and rear? I want to make sure I have everything hooked up correctly before I start trying to diagnos whether or not I have any faulty components.
I also noticed the usually green light on the XM-4040 amp, turned red at some point while I was "experimenting". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
