Wiring new amp with stock headunit?

well this all started when i blew a speaker in my drivers door in my '99 land cruiser. picked up a set of Rainbow CMX265 kicks. found out i needed a high-pass to run the speakers, which my stock amp doesnt do, nor is it powerful enough to open up the CMXs. anyways i plan on pickin up an Alpine PDX4.150 amp as well as a wiring kit (is this a decent kit: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15604 ?)

anyways, im confused about the wiring now. It seems the stock HU gets its power and a few other things from the stock amp. Heres a quote from someone who has wired the above aftermarket amp with the stock HU:

"Anyway, I have all the wiring sorted out at the amp. It turns out that on a 2000, there is a 14-pin and a 16-pin clip. the 14 pin is for the signal from the headunit to the amp along w/ the dimmer, amp turn on lead, and some other stuff. The 16 pin has larger gauge wire and has the power for the HU and amp from the fuse block, the main grounds for each, & all the wiring from the amp out to the speakers.

The most interesting thing about the whole thing was that the speaker leads from the Head Unit down to the amp was 5 wires - 4 seperate positive leads and a common ground. That's the thing that threw me the most."

also, i believe my stock HU uses regular wire for the inputs to the amp, while hte alpine uses RCAs...will these be compatible?

basically, will i be able to wire all these up together?

Although I don't have a land cruiser (lincoln Aviator) I had some of these issues when keeping my stock hu. Of course it is doable, the hard part is figuring out what all the wires are for. For this i actually went to the library and looked at a Chilton guide this gave me somewhere to start. My hu also used regular wires as low level outputs to the stock amp. I tapped into these, and went to Radio Shack and picked up a pack of rca plugs that i then soldered my wires into to use for my aftermarket amp. My amp isnt very strong tops out at about 5-600 millivolts, so i had to pick up a line driver to get the most out of my amps. It will def take some time don't expect it all to fall together easily if you are new to this as I was. If you have any specific questions I might be able to help.
