Wiring issues?!?!?!?

Ok first off I would like to thank everyone who provided advise on getting the power cable through my 1995 Cutlass Ceria! Worked good, drilled a hole and fed the cable through and slapped some silicone paste to seal it.

Now I have wired my Amp (Fosgate power 200) and my 10" Punch speakers and am not getting any bass. I am getting power to my amp, but hardly any to push the speakers (so it seems). They were working fine in my Mazda Protege a few months back before I removed it all. What is different is my RCA cable and ground cable. I'm using shielded RCA's (brand escapes me) and have the ground wire (10guage) on the top part of my trunk. I used an existing hole that was there from manufacturing, but I sanded it down before connecting my ground.

I can barley hear some bass, but not nearly as loud as it should be.

My question is could this be a bad ground or my RCA cables? I spend 2hrs yesterday checking my speaker connections and all looked fine.

Ideas?

um. you said you used TEN GUAGE wire to ground the amp?

unless your amp is only rated for 200w peak power, i would upgrade that wire to AT LEAST the size of your battery wire, wich also, should be bigger than 10guage.

seirously. 8 guage i will do from 1 watt ~ 500w, 4 guage from 500~1000, and 0 guage from 1000~2000, then it takes some creativity.

chances are - your wiring is choking your amplifier. for gods sake, get some bigger wire 0_o

lol....

ok something to consider...

my main power cable is 8guage...

I was thinking it could be the db ink RCA cables I bought....

But I can see the ground cable being an issue...

I know the rule //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif just never been a issue in the past... the Amp is rated at 298watts RMS.

have you checked to see if the speakers were in phase? Disconnect the speaker wires from the amplifier and place them across the battery of your cordless drill. They should move in the same direction. If one travels one way and the other in the other direction. The speakers are electrical out of phase or the polarity on one of the speakers is backwards. ie. postive wire on the neg term of speaker. Another way to distinguish the problem is disconnect one of the subs and see if the bass comes back.

Ok I've been checking all my wiring and tested the subs... nothing seem wrong.

So I went to a local shop and asked one of the guys there. He suggested I switch the pre-out to "Pre-out rear" from "Sub out" and a got a boust in power. Mind you it is still not at the level it should be.

So I think the pre-outs on my Panasonic CQ-C8300 are toast //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I even made sure I had the subs enabled in the menu and set to the max (+6)

To top it off I lost my bill of sale. But I did buy it at FutureShop on my Future Shop Card back on Dec 28, pluss the Manufature date on the unit shows Sept 2004. So I hope I should be ok. How is Panasonics service turn around in Canada ?
