wiring harness for 2001 Cavalier

You will lose all audible warning chimes, such as door chimes, lights left on, etc. You will also lose the feature that keeps your radio on until you open a door after the key is turned off. The installation will be slightly more difficult because you'll have to run a wire to a new accessory power source in the vehicle.

All aftermarket head units need two power sources: constant power and key-switched (accessory) power. In the 01 Cavalier there is a constant power wire but no switched power wire behind the factory head unit. Some of the expensive harness modules generate a switched power connection using the factory data bus. If you use the cheap harness, you'll need to find your own source of voltage that turns on and off with the key. I like to put a fused tap on the heavy brown wire that runs to the key switch, but it's not the easiest to get to in this vehicle.
