wiring car amp at home

so, what if, hypothetically, i wanted to wire a 220 watt car amplifier into my house receptical. so i have a 12V two prong plug and i would splice this with the hot and neutral of a 3 prong and bring the ground from the three prong to the ground in the amp....

my question is: you think this'll work? or am i gonna blow my house up?

yes, do that, take some pictures too. We would all like to see how it comes out.

For the real answer:

No, don't do it.

Your house is run on an AC current while your car runs on a DC current. Other than one giving power at intervals and the other giving constant power, your house runs on 220-120volts of power while your car runs off of 12 volts.

Technically it's possible to do. You just have to get an AC to DC 12v converter with the proper amperage... but I don't think they make those. They make 12v DC converters... but not with 40+ ampers.

Dont do it unless you want to instantly blow your amp.

You can purchase a 12v DC power supply that you can plug in to your wall outlet and then run an amp off of.

Radioshack used to sell 40A models but probably not anymore.

You can search power supplies on MCMElectronics.com or partsexpress.com

Or you can make your own rig by using a 12v DC Car battery (Dry Cell like PowerMaster, Kinetik, or Optima) and run a small battery charger on it while the amp is powered on.

Dont use a laptop power supply. They cannot supply the current you need.

computer power supply.
NO YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG

Like Ed Lester said, it can't provide enough current.

Bottom line OP, buy a home amplifier/cd/record player and stop playing MacGuyver. You're going to destroy some sh!t if you're not careful.

I ran my aq1200d off a 250 watt pc power supply the other day, it was capable of 15 amps in perfect conditions. I set the gain low as it i dont need much power inside and it worked great and got loud for a few hours.
