Wiring a volt meter to the cigarette lighter wire?

Is there any downside of doing this?

or I could run it to the head unit power and ground?

both of these would be very convent to do but obviously the easy way isnt always the best way

Why not run it to your amp? It's easy to do.

because I am mounting it right next to a cigarette lighter and laziness lol

I know amp is best but do you think there will be a difference in the voltage?

Personally I didn't test mine in different places, I was always told to run to the amp and I found that it was simple enough even though my meter is actually right where my lighter is.

Whatever you tap the meter into it is only displaying that voltage. So unless you are expecting heavy lighter use you can tap you main line anywhere or from distrooblock. It isnt too dificult to run a cpl wires to where yo want to mountit
