wiring a DVC sub to a 2 channel amp

I am looking at getting a DVC sub for my GF's car, and am looking at a dual 4 ohm sub. The amp I was planning on using is a 2 channel amp, so I cant bridge it for 2 ohm, and dont want to run it at 8 ohm.

Can I wire each VC to a channel, or will there be any kind of problems?

Thanks

Matt

I'll assume from your post that you currently have the amp and have not yet purchased a sub?

If this is the case buy a DVC 2 Ohm sub instead of a DVC 4 Ohm driver then wire the sub like so:

and then bridge the amp to a single mono channel which will make its power @ 4 Ohms.

Done!

That works just fine.

If your HU has one sub output, run the single RCA back to the amp then use a Y connector from that one RCA cable into the two inputs on the amp to ensure its running in mono.

I would get a dual 2 ohm if I could, but I am looking at used subs, and as you know, its hard to find exactly what you want some times.

Just wanted to know if it would work.

And thanks for the wiring diagram, though I dont need it. Even though my post count is low, im not that much of a noob. Been doing this for a couple years, just havnt tried this wiring setup, or know if its even plausible.

EDIT: Thanks Rich, I figgured that would work, since gains and filters will obviously be the same.

Thanks

Matt

Provided he gets the outputs on each channel matched to one another pretty precisely.

If not the coils won't move in unison and that's never a good thing over the longterm...

Most HU's only provide one sub out, and in running a DVC sub from two seperate channels its a good idea to use a mono signal for the same reason you mentioned matching the levels closely, so theres the same frequencies running in each channel to the voicecoils.
