Wiring 4 subs another way for same load?

I had 4 dvc 4ohm Type R's in a common chamber box. I had the + and - in the middle hooked up with banana plugs on all 4. Then the + and - on the outsides running from each sub to the next for a 2ohm load, like the way the Crutchfield diagram looks.

I now have a dual chamber box. I need to know if I just hook up 2 subs a side and have them wired the same way except they won't all be hooked together inside the box. The first box I just used one speaker terminal. This box will have 2 speaker terminals. Will I get the same 2ohm load if I hook the 2 negatives from each chamber to the - on the amp, and the 2 positives from each chamber to the + on the amp? I hope this doesn't sound too confusing? On all the wiring diagrams I saw all the subs were daisy chained on the inside of the box. All I'm asking is how can I get the same load with a dual chamber?

This is a ap30001d amp. I've already tried to hook up 2 per side for a 1ohm load on each channel and it didn't work. 2 of the subs started smoking and the gain was down and volume was on about 3 out of 35. The only way I can get the full power is at 2ohms mono, then all the subs play fine. It's supposed to give 1500 @ 1ohm per channel, but I couldn't get it to work like that without making 2 subs smoke and it was not wired wrong. If anyone understands what I'm trying to say, PLEASE HELP!
