Wiring 1985 Mercedes Benz HELP

Attempting to install aftermarket indash into a 1985 Benz 190E but after the factory unit was removed speaker wires were clipped into plug like circles that in turn were installed into two speaker holes on the back on the factory unit L & R. Wondering if maybe I could cut those circular plugs off the ends of the wires and install with connectors? I then noticed that there was another plug that held a brown wire, a black with yellow stripe, a grey with purple strip, and a red wire into it and that in turn installed into a place that my Pioneer indash does not have. Wondering if maybe I could cut that plug off and install each wire with connectors to the wires from my Pioneer? Also what does the different color wires mean? Brown = ? Black & Yellow = ? Grey & Purple = ? Red = power obviously. Assistance is appreciated.

One thing I wouldn't do is assume one the wiring of what color is what. This is a German car and fairly old. I love the older Mercedes especially that generation (we had an 86 560SEL for about 13 years) but I would rather test the tires to see what each means before going ahead and wiring it up, or just run all my own wires fresh. I know at least older Jags were way off on the wiring, I think even some had all the same color wire throughout the car. But thats just my 2 cents.

^ thanks...I got the indash installed but still ran into some problems...1. Every time the car is turned on/off the radio resets itself..(i am familiar with many techniques to solving this problem but all that i have tried failed). Initially I ran the black & yellow from harness to my solid yellow from headunit, I then ran my red from harness to red from headunit, i then ran my blue & white from headunit to solid light blue from harness and with this it reset itself everytime. I then ran the yellow and red from headunit to the red from harness and the indash powered itself constant even tho there were no keys in the ignition. I then reversed it and ran the yellow and red from headunit to the black & yellow from harness and the indash wouldn't power when car was started. I could go back to my original install but I do not want to reset all my options everytime I get into my car...help would be great.

scratch that... I am an idiot. It sounds like you just have the acc on and main power mixed up. Though I am not sure what light blue is... do you have a power attenae?

Do you have a DMM or a test light? If so check which wires have power when car is off and what wires have power when car is on.

Yeah that looks like what I was originally trying to post about...

^ Thanks fellas..I will let ya know what happens shortly.
yes so what I was originally trying to post but then got confused as all heck...

yellow from hu to red and red to black/yellow should give you what you want... though i am not sure why it wouldn't turn on at all with you had both yellow and red to black/yellow... ohwell.

And yes your light blue wire looks to be your attenae so fi you dont have a power attenae then you dont need to hook it up and blue/white on your hu is usually remote so I would double check thats the one you want to hook up (my HU has a seperate power attenae lead that is solid blue).

haha **** you kshit and ^ thanks BunB the first post you sent was what i was trying next and it got my security sensor on my indash to beep and it doesn't reset anymore. Good Look.

I'm skipping ahead, and i saw a full wiring diagram was posted already. The best thing you could do (assuming the diagram wasnt available), is use a DMM to test each wire. The ground will be easy, the power will have above 12v at all times. The ignition wire ill only have power when the ignition is turned on.. I don't remember how i found my speaker wires, those were seperated in my mercedes and easily identified because there are 4 pairs.. I wired my 2003 Mercedes CLK430 because no shop down here would touch it and be liable.
