wires for an amp

i have 8 gage wires

if i get a 1000 watt that needs 4 gage what would happen if i keep the 8 gage wires

Nothing too terrible, loss of transient response from the amp is the big thing.

just make sure your fuses are the right ones for the wires and you'll be fine. I would try to get 4 guage if at all possible, but 8 would work

the thing is ive had my car wires for a while now with 8 ga wires to power a 350 watt amp but now i got a 1200 rms amp and just wanna know if i can use the same wires this is the amp sounddomainwww.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='REF1211A'&Ser=REF&Cat=AMP

will 8ga wires work for that???
