SO if your truck was parked in front of your house unlocked. I needed milk but didnt want to waste my gas. I hot wired your car and got the milk, put it back exactly where I found it, didnt break anyhting while hot wiring it. And you were only out gas and a few miles on the vehicle you wouldnt be mad? I see this as the exact same thing as the internet. It may be unlocked, you may not be hurting my stuff. You are however still stealing something that I pay for and you are using my bandwith (just like the miles and gas with the car). The ECPA (Electronic Communication Privacy Act) of '96 tries to make unprotected communications private where the users have an assumed right to privacy...this, however, is silly. Anything transmitted over the air can be received, processed, and monitored...to think otherwise is naive and foolish. How much effort you want to put into receiving it depends on your personal ethics.
Kuijo's analogy of the unlocked car is a little flawed - unless your neighbor parked his unlocked car in your living room, and asked you not to touch it.
I work in merchandising for a major computer retailer. I am not gettting pissy about you having money, just that you would steal just to save a buck. The kids that get whatever they want isnt my problem, they are getting it legit, its the parents fault for spoiling them. I dont need to rag on them about money. I'd be willing to bet that they would buy their internet. You cant back your arguement up on people that are legit. I am not mad at you or pissy. I am having a discussion on it. I just dont understand why you wont just pay for it.jntar just curious what do you do??? not meaning to be an ass about this either but you know you are all getting pissy at me for having money but hey I work for that money and I work hard. What about these kids that have there parents buy everything for them like brand new SUV's and what not. the ones that don't work a day in there life that never have to get there hands dirty. those are the ones you should be ragging on about money
what about the added miles? I mean can u actualy ever repay those //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gifSO if your truck was parked in front of your house unlocked. I pointed that out in the post. I just dont understand why people want to steal for it. Latly I have had to get on to myself for all the music I DL. I have since cut back to things that I just cant find. I know its wrong, I am atleast making an effort. I do spend countless hundreds of $$$ on BMG. So I am not just DLing. Infact I havent DL anything in quite a while. I have found a great little hole in the wall music store that I buy from if BMG doesnt have it.what about the added miles? ok jntar you even said it yourself I was THINKING about doing this and just this. I don't steal anything well except satellite. but like you said I would do this to save me close to a buck a day. If that means more money going into my investing then awesome more money for retirement. but since it brings on such a bug arguement I am not going to do this and I will continue to only be "stealing one thing and that is satellite
What if your truck was parked at school or not on your property? The truck would be parked on my property...while my internet would be on your property, and your neighbor's, and the guy's down the street...it passes through your body, yet you don't have a right to receive it?
I don't know...I just think people have too much of an expectation of privacy over the air. In your house or over landline is one thing - but broadcasting it to everyone in your neighborhood is another.
