I think he wants to be able to connect to something free like a coffee shop or taco bell with his desktop. It's not possible unless you live by one. And I mean like 2-3 houses away at most. Same concept with houses.

If you're looking for free net, just get a USB wireless network adapter - they're the easiest to set up. Can also take it with you and put it in a another computer too.

You MUST have a unsecred network really close to you though.

Well if im on a laptop right now and am connected with internal wirless thingy.... I have Netgear, Tiny net gear, and Denise... I can connect to all of them... So I should be good right?

If you're on your laptop and it is connecting to a wireless network then obviously there is an unsecured network nearby. Just go buy a wireless card for your desktop and your set.

Worst case scenario, it doesn't work, just return the card and get your money back.

Yes if you have line of sight and a lot of money to spend. I use my dads wifi across the street and down the block from my place in the winter, but that is because the router and repeater are both in windows with line of sight. I cant use it in the spring or summer because trees fill out and kill the line of sight.

Yeah you are golden. Get a wifi card and you should be all set.
