wireless internet?

how do I do that?
Depends on the wireless router. I have a Linksys WRT54G. If you are familiar with going through the setup its fairly simple. Basically log into the router through the IP address (which usually is the gateway IP). From there, there is a bunch of tabs you can click on. For instance, "Wireless", "Security", "Admin" and so on. From these tabs there are sub menus, I want to say its through the wireless tab, but I could be wrong. I'm not saying that if you change your setting to 7 it will get better, I tried channel 5, 4, 3 but 7 was the best out all of them for me.

On mine I have a WEP password (128bit) and a MAC address filter, along with an IP scanner to see how many pc's are on my network just in case.

Anyone got any ideas to boost the signal from your house. I know a guy who is using wireless from the neighbors but the signal isn't the greatest so is there any way to get a better signal???

There really isn't a way he can get better signal unless he is closer to the source or the neighbor gets stronger antennas.

shit and type.......ftmfw

I dont know if this is possible without proper setup thru the 1st wireless base but those range extender things for like big houses you could possible get that set it in the house and I think it will get the signal and send a better one from there or somethin. check it out my .2

Well there is a repeater you can get that is suppose to boost the signal away from the base. Anyone ever uses these?
From what I undertand about repeaters is that it will repeat the current signal this is being picked up and extend the range, not necessarily improve the signal quality.

Well that can still help him. I am just not sure if he wants to spend the extra cash on it.

Your av is already being used by someone else. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

If you're trying to mooch internet off of the neighbors but are getting a weak signal, the first thing you can do is upgrade your wireless card to a higher powered one, then get a better antenna. I tried a cantenna, and it didn't work that well, didn't get kept for long. If you have a laptop with a PCMCIA slot, you can get a decent card like a Proxim 8470-WD for around $40, and a halfway decent antenna for half that, then you may be able to pick up the entire street's internet.

As for security, WEP isn't that great, the key can be cracked in under an hour in most times. WPA has some minor flaws, but it is far better than WEP. MAC filtering helps, but if someone is determined enough, they'll figure a way into your wireless network.
