Wired Up Rear Fills & Sounds Like Crap

Hey guys, I have an Alpine MRP-F550 4ch amp, that was only powering my front stage for a few months, which is Alpine SPR-17S components. Today I finally threw in a pair of rear coaxials, that are SPR 17C. They sound like absolute CRAP!!!

I have a Pioneer Avic D3 HU, and I set the gains the same for the front and rear. Fronts are set at full pass and rears are HPF. Fronts crossed over at 120hz and rears are 150hz. The highs are unclear, the bass is crappy. They are however, just mounted free air right now, as in just sitting on top of each sub box I have behind the seat. Im using 12gauge for the fronts and 14gauge wire for the rears. This is in a 2door 2seater coupe, so the cabin isnt that big. Is this something to do with the speakers or the amp? I kinda need help on this one. Thanks guys!

No need for rear fill with a solid frontstage.

iv had some eclipse components up front before and a 4x6 in the dash amped on a alpine mrp-f250 and it sounded BETTER AFTER i added my 6x9s.

I guess what I forgot to mention to you guys is that its a 1992 Toyota MR2. Its got a GT28RS turbo and 3" wide open exhaust. Dont forget the engine is in the back, behind the cabin, separated only by a thing sheet metal wall. With the T-Tops off oh the freeway, I cant hear shiet. Just thought you guys might need to know that lol. My front stage is deafening when Im in the garage working, and just playing off the deck, but on the freeway its not so clear.

I have 2x 10 Alpine Type S's one behind each seat in a wedge box, powered by 600W RMS. The subs hit fine, but the mids and highs have a hard time keeping up. Thats why I got an extra pair of speakers to mount on top of each sub box behind each seat, so it will be right behind my Recaro seats and play through the opening of the seat where my harnesses go.

my polks in the rear deck and they are free air and hit pretty good they sound good to
I dont think so much anymore its a problem of my speakers being free air, or am I wrong? Does being in a door make that much difference than just sitting in the cabin somewhere?(testing purposes so havent mounted yet).

I didnt go with 6x9 because I thought they would be too big. I also wanted the 6.5" for better highs.

the reason they sound like crap is cause their just sitting there. mount them somewhere.Cross your components at 80 and up and your subs at 80 and down.
you should put them in some enclosure to have any decent sound.
Would sticking them in a box make much difference? I bought a pair of small 6x9 boxes today, tomorrow Im going to seal the hole up and make it a 6.5" hole instead. Wouldnt being in an enclosure just add more bass? They just dont sound very clear right now and they dont play very loud.

Like I said, the gain and Xovers are set at the same point on the amp for the 2 front and 2 rear channels.

I understand the concept, but that is for the woofer portion, not the tweeter correct? The tweeter is centered and on a swivel in the middle of the woofer. The highs are affected by being free air too? Theyre not very clear n crisp...
