Wire recommendations for running 2 amps

I read through the wire guide thread but am still not 100% on what I am looking for as far as wires for my setup. It is as follows:

Vehicle: 2000 Toyota 4runner

HU: Alpine 9856

Components: 6.5" PGRsd's

Component amp: Kenwood KAC8401 (4 channel bridged)

(looking for a new comp amp in the meantime)

Sub: JL Audio 12w6 (old school)

Sub amp: Alpine MRD-M605

Would I be better off piecing together a set or buying a 2 amp kit that many people sell?

I need particular guidance when it comes to the power wire (gauges before and after the dist. block).

Is there a rule of thumb when using a distribution block as far as distances to/from sources?

Thanks in advance for any light you guys can shine on this for me.
