My vehicles stock wiring is 18 gauge and im going to get a new amp (80w x4) but some people told me i can just extend my current wiring to the new amp to save the trouble of running all new wire. So is 80 watts too much for 18 gauge? Are there any sites where i can get some info that may give me an idea how much power diff gauge wiring can safely handle?

I think you will be just fine to be honest. Id run it and check it after hammering on it quite a bit and check the temp on the wire by hand to see...
