That is twisted RCA's. Shielded has an extra layer of interlaced material to shield the signal wires from interference.

It will reduce unwanted noise. I used to have some home rca's to my sub amp, and wasnt ran next to power, it sounded good, but if you run some rca's to a 4 ch, then its a good idea to get shielded since the highs will have more distortion to unproper rca's than the subwoofer. But overall its a good idea to get shielded rca's period.

Is NOT monster cable hyped garbage

99.9% of all the BS you will read on the packages of cables and what the salesman will tell you are flat out lies to sell the public hyped, overpriced trash with labels and information designed to cause fear in the consumer so that the consumer will be afraid in the back of his feeble mind that if he does not buy that $250 HDMI cable or that GOLD plated fiber optic cable, the cash he just spent on his sexy new HD TV, car amplifier or whatever will go to waste because the signal just cannot possibly make the 6-14 foot run to his tv or amp without being horribly distorted unless he purchases only the most expensive product. High end overpriced cables are the biggest flat out in your face lie in electronic retail today.

shields are not that useful in a car. They "shield" against frequencies that are not an issue in the 12v environment (very high frequencies).

The technology was adopted years ago by the car audio industry because it worked in other applications.

Anyway - the ridiculously expensive cables are 100% marketing. A $20 cable will be higher quality than $10, and $30 probably better than $20, but sound quality isn't the issue. When you get up into the $50+ range you're throwing your money away IMO.

I personally run some $7 Sound Quest unshielded twisted pair cables and they're perfectly fine.
