You're not only protecting from the wire catching on fire, (which you should lower the fuse if it did not blow in a short) but you are also protecting your battery. Batteries do not like to be directly shorted post to post.it seems once you get you get up to a higher anl fuse its doesnt matter. last year i had a 300amp fuse in each runn of 4/0 one of them grounded out and didnt pop fuse just welded to fender so if your not pulling more amps from short than what fuse is rated at your not going to pop fuse. so i jsut have solid wire now and a fire extinguisher up front and in back. And full coverage insurance thnx "auto owners ins.".
have an electrician pull the breaker from your house.. you won't want your electrical to fail at home..why use fuses more points of failure ive never had a problem without fuses
