Gold plated tends to hold up the longest, especially when soldered onto the wire. Crimp or set screw are alternate methods but should be taped to reduce chance to loosen over time. The crossover locations also matter because they cannot be inside a door and need to stay try. I prefer to locate the passive crossovers back at the amp for both access and a rigid mounting location despite this method requiring 2x as much speaker wire.
The goal of any connector is to maximize contact surface area while also resisting corrosion. Proper sizing for the wire helps with conductivity and longevity.
