Food, water and shelter are all you need. Everything else is incidental.

Jobs pay what they pay. It is not the employers responsibility to make sure you have everything you want by paying you more. It is YOUR responsibility to find a job that pays what you would like in order to pay for the extra things you want.

I make X amount of money delivering pizza. It buys Food, Water and Shelter... plus a little extra. If I want more than what my wages can buy then I make sacrifices OR work my way up to higher paying positions or find a job that has higher wages already. You don't tell the employer how much to pay. Set the minimum and if an employee wants more, then go find more and earn it.

So I'm going to assume you don't want the majority of the population to live in a 1 bedroom apartment with no possessions:

So lets say I make $11 an hour at a fast food restaurant. If you work 35 hours a week every week for an entire year (no vacation) it is $18,480 before taxes. Lets make it nice and easy and say $17,600 after taxes.

(Based on my area) Now lets see expenses
1 Bedroom Apartment: $700/mo (What I actually pay for a shitty apartment)
Utilities: $100/mo
Food: $140/mo ($4 per day)
Car Insurance: $70/mo (this is assuming you already own the car and have PLPD, I pay $200/mo for full coverage on my car)
Gasoline: $80 (based on 10 mile commute 20mpg)
Clothes/hygiene/car maintenance/random expenses/etc: $150/mo average
Phone bill: $60/mo (I swear to god if you say you don't need a phone. I guess everyone needs to go to the library (tax funded) to find a better position then)

Total = $1300/mo

On that salary you earn $1466 per month, so $166 of breathing room assuming ALL random expenses are $150. So you can see how 40% of Americans cant afford a $400 emergency. This is also assuming, no kids, car is paid for, no debt, etc.

If that is the standard of living for 40% of the population in your conservative utopia more power to you I guess. Many people aren't even making close to $11 an hour either. Minimum wage is $7.25. In my area I know many people making in the $9s at restaurants they've worked at for years. It also costs more to be poor. You can't afford a nice car or things that don't break.

Oh yeah I forgot health insurance isn't provided by the fast food company. So that is another $450 average per month. So there you go. Literally can't afford to live with healthcare...

Actually where I come from you need more than that. It's against code to not have electricity. You are poor. Not sure why you are a republican and I'm not sure why you are against higher wages. Is what it is. Like it or not higher wages are coming, actually already here. Oh wait that's why you're mad. Cause you are stuck being a broke peasant. Shouldn't be jealous of other people bro. That's one of them there sins you kinda folks talk about

Well the minimum is going up so stop crying about it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It sickens me how the Republican party capitalizes on religious and other polarizing issues to get the poor to vote for against their own interests. Or even manufacture issues and feed it to them on the news to distract and incite fear mongering.

Wages don't mean anything when your whole country is collapsing and you have a fiat currency. US dollar is going bye bye before too long. Nobody can afford to pay their workers more, people will just be replaced with machines.

Minimum wage would mean something with price controls, but with out that it’s a total waste of time. Same thing with raising taxes on corporations. They anticipate this stuff and raise prices to match across the board, sending the money right back to the corporations. This obviously makes me a communist I’m sure, having basic math skills and all.

Just gonna leave this here...

Absolutely right. Corrupt corporations and corrupt government partnerships never turn out well for the people. I wish it were as simple as raising taxes and minimum wage to help the lower income brackets. It just isn’t going to work with these 2 parties in charge.
I'm glad we can agree on that. What do you think the best solution would be?

Get a new government. I’ve posted alot about the work I did with the nonprofits, and doing some special labor work for some rich donors surrounding the Obama campaign, so I don’t really want to type that whole rant again, but these people can’t be trusted. They have half measures on every issue on purpose, knowing the problems will never be fixed in the way we think fixing should happen. I’m a liberal on most issues, but these people aren’t liberals. I’m also a “crazy conspiracy theorist”, so it might be a good idea to just dismiss me out of hand.

The border. I live on it. I’m for open borders, but what we have isn’t open and doesn’t help immigrants the way we should. They are just flooded in with no legal standing to buy a house, get a business loan, get a job, get anything that requires a ss#, etc…….but they can vote in some places. It’s just weird and obviously political. We are screwing them for politics and forcing them to do illegal things to live here. That’s not liberal. That’s not humane, and I’m not for it. These people need the legal standing to live here, point blank. We won’t demand it though, because Trump doesn’t sit there.
