NO lol

Not at all!!!!

You are not in defense of your life if YOU are the one committing the assault lol.

Gaige could have shot him, yes. But in that event he would (or at least should) be tried and convicted of murder based on the way the video proof played out.

I don't Gaige committed assault. Huber hit and 2 others hit Kyle, but I don't Gaige ever did.

Gaige wasn't as simple as pointing a weapon ar Rittenhouse...gaige initially started approaching Rittenhouse with his hands up pistol in hand (the pistol was pointed upwards)...Rittenhousekept his rifle at a ready position...as gaige got closer he dropped his hands in a sudden movement to bring the pistol into a firing position...that's when Rittenhouse pulled the trigger on him...

I'm not sure about gaige either as far as actually assaulting Rittenhouse...but gaige started approaching as Rittenhouse was first kicked in what appeared to the head by "jump kick man" then hit by Huber with the skateboard...so it would've been reasonable for Rittenhouse to assume gaige wasn't a "friendly" in the heat of the moment...

Assumption can get you killed or cause you to kill. Bad spot for someone with no LE or combat training to be in.
Gaige thinking Kyle is an AS and Kyle thinking Gaige is a rioter there to kill him. Lose. Lose.

In the videos gaige doesn't come across as somebody trying to stop a situation...he watches full on as Rittenhouse is kicked (in what appears to the head) then hit in the head with a skateboard...he doesn't try to stop that but appears to take advantage of the situation to get closer to Rittenhouse...

Pointing a loaded gun at someone is assault regardless if the trigger gets pulled or not, but you are correct that there as no physical contact between Kyle and Gaige.

A little bit of chicken vs egg. Is Gaige reacting to Rittenhouse's move or vice versa? We have the advantage of video and hindsight; they're making decisions on the fly.

IF he was thinking Kyle was an active shooter, should he have been trying to stop the situation?
I'm not sure if I would lean toward doing what is right, or joining in the azz-kicking of a presumed active shooter.
Only will ever know if it happens, i guess.

For those that carry or carried, how much tactical training and how much mental training do you do or have you done?

Have you ever contemplated walking into a place where two people are faced off with guns (or only one has a gun), and not knowing which one is the good guy? They always say the best thing to do is be a good witness for when he cops arrive.
Easy to say, but how do you live with yourself if you could have prevented the killing of an innocent, or you kill the innocent instead of the bad guy?
Sounds like a common movie scene, but it really happens.

When i worked for the Sheriff's Office I volunteered for a Self Defense Through Tactical Shooting and Decision-Making classes. It was basically taught in 4 parts.

- self-defense through mental preparedness.

- A legal team would come in to explain castle doctrine, self defense, and stand your ground laws.

-tactical shooting/weapon retention/firearms safety

-shoot dont shoot scenarios which is actually conducted on a projected simulator

I have also competed in IDPA, bench rifle shooting, run and gun, and 3 gun competitions in limited, tactical, and open class.

With that said... i do not feel anyone needs any of the training I have received to responsibly carry a gun for self-defense. I encourage it, but do not see it as a requirement.

I have tried to imagine every possible situation, but the truth is, there are too many variables to even imagine.

a lot of people have trouble living with themselves even after a justified self defense shooting. All I can say for sure is that i would be completely willing to take someone's life if i legitimately felt like that is the force necessary for my safety or someone else's.
