Will two Kicker L7's be fine with a Hifonics BXi 1606D

As the title says, two kicker L7's (dual 4 ohm coils)... will they sound great with a BXi 1606D wired down to 1 ohm or should I find an alternative?

If they are 10" and 12" then you'll be just fine. If they are 15" then you could go with a bigger amp but you'll hear a small increase in loudness.

They're 12"s so I figured it would be alrighty. An online friend who is also a member here (Doitle) said it wouldn't work very well so I figured I'd ask.

i dont think you understand.. he was suggesting that you give each sub 1200+ rms, not that you wire up to 4 ohms with a big amp like that

get the Hifonics 2607, or just buy a used orion 2500d on here for like 375-$400 shipped!

I got a zx 1000.1 free from my brother for a late b-day present today, so I figure I will use that. Should I just get another one and make 1000+ rms to each? They're $499 at Fry's. And I picked up my subs today, install is tomorrow.

I figure it's better to have 1.33 times the rms power than .666 times the rms power

I'll see if I want to work for 6 hours to get the cash for it.

Havocide, yes the 12" L7's wired in parallel would put a 1 ohm load on an amplifier. The L7's specs state that the MAX power handling is 750 watts RMS. Remember, don't go by the Peak Power. What Peak Power means is what the speaker can handle in one short burst of power of one second or less, not continous power. The Peak Power rating can be misguiding to some. RMS(root means square) is closer to the speaker's true ability to handle power. In any case, the HiIFONICS BXi 1606D is too powerful for your speakers. It is rated at 1600 watts x 1 channel @ 1 ohm. The two

L7's can only handle a total of 1500 watts MAX. However, the HIFONICS TXi1508D is rated at 1500 watts x 1channel @ 1 ohm, which exactly what your subwoofers need, you won't have worry about them being overpowered and blowing. Hmm.. good to see you kind of know what your talking about. Grammar and spelling are pretty good. I like the attention to capitalization and punctuation. There's no bashing in your post either..

BUT

Wrong. If power ratings in the 12v world were perfect, you would have a pretty good theory. However, you cant forget to consider the tendencies of certain companies to rate their products differently and consumers to use then differently.

First, Hifonics is a company that tends to overrate their amps a bit. Their RMS ratings can be several hundred watts off sometimes (generally shy of the ratings). It is more realistic to assume that the bxi1606d will a give a continuous 13-1400 watts, assuming your electrical system can maintain a constant 14.4 volts.

Second, Kicker tends to rate their subwoofers pretty realistically, sometimes even conservatively. It is safe to assume that an L7 12 can handle 750-900 watts. Now, this power can probably be maintained for long periods of time using a sine wave, so consider the average person's listening habits. Most people listen to music in their cars and not sine waves. So also consider the sub's ability to handle more continuous power for music and that brings me to an estimate around 11-1300 watts per sub, assuming a fairly clean signal.

So one 1606d will be just fine on the pair.
