You were right in a sense, streetrod. Often times when people "underpower" their speakers they have the gain up too high, thus sending a clipped signal. This clipped signal is going to be a wave with the top and bottom "clipped" off. Underpowering speakers with these square waves is actually tougher on them than using a bit more than the RMS power rating. Hope this helps.

this is VERY true. rms power is all about 'area under the curve' and when you clip, you ARE more likely to blow a sub, BUT the reason, is b/c a clipped signal has more area under the curve, and melts the coils b/c it doesnt let them cool properly.

so i could use the jbl1200.1 to power 2 l7 15's but id have to be carefull with how i set my gains?
