will the gains on my amp being too high, affect the SQ?

hey i have a alpine 9815 doing the bi-amplification for my comps on a alpine mrv-f407 amp... im using the hu internal xover and i think my hu has too weak pre-outs, so i got my gain for the tweeter set on 2v and for the woofer below 0,5v //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

im asking if i should just set both to 4V (minimum of the amp) to have better SQ and less distortion levels or if thats just plain bullshit?

the volume isnt even very loud i tell ya... ive heard other setups with their gains on minimum and sounding much louder than mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

it all depends on the voltage the amplifier is putting out at the speaker terminals... refer to gain-setting tutorial and find out how many volts AC the amplifier should read, maximum, and then keep it under that number (with test tones, that is)
