Will sunlight damage subs?

I have my sub in the back of an S-10 facing straight up (just installed). The rear window and two corner windows are tinted moderately, but the sub still is in the range of sunlight. Will this dry-rot or destroy the sub in some other way over time? Do I need to reposition it so that it is facing sideways instead?

if the sub has a foam surround, it can dry it out over time and cause it to dry rot. the cone should be fine but my get sun "bleached" after a while.

i have an s-10 as well and just went from a sub/port up to sub/port foward, imo it sounds a tad better and much louder with both foward.

you can always put somthing over it when your parked and not using it.

the sun can and WILL fade and dry rot the cone and surround. BUT if your like most other car audio fans you wont have them long enough to care.lol its not going to happen over night.

also you can put Armorall on the surround to pretect it. works great AND looks nice as well.

Facing front and rear is not an option, there isn't enough room in my truck. It's sitting on my bucket seat behind the passengers seat, that's the only way my box will fit at all. I just changed it so it is firing sideways towards the bucket seat behind the drivers seat. That should take care of most of the sunlight.

Is it safe to put armor all on the sub surround? I know the surround can be damaged by drying caulk and other things. I don't to put something on it that will cause damage.
