Will SQ still be around?

umm yes? maybe you didnt read what i wrote, but do you not attempt to center your soundstage by adjusting time delay so it sounds like there is the same distance from your ears to the speakers? i.e. centered?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

center channel is used to center the image //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.
It still has to be done right in a 3.1 ch setup, if not it can be more trouble than what its worth. And it should only be used in a way to tie L/R chs together to create a focal point. IMO a 10-20% angle on a midrange driver does wonders to help stabilize a center focus on a stereo setup before touching T/A or a center ch..

True '5.1' is another beast. It demands rear fill, sound is coded per channel. And you cannot put the processing restrictions per driver that you need for 2ch sound...in other words they both cannot optimally exist in the car together...other than by a touch of a preset to change.

I think the poster is not clear on the definition of true coded 5.1 material playback, vs a 5.1 type speaker placement system to play 2ch material- which IMO it sounds like shyt.

I despise music in 5.1 on my home theatre, and the car is no different. I'm not a big fan of time alignment, because if you palce speakers properly it should image right without resorting to electronic trickery IMO.

Movies and HD TV (especially sports): 5.1

Music: 2.1

My car: 2.1
