will porting my small-ish box flatten my low frequency response?

my new eD 5.12 hits really hard from 45-65 and it struggles on the lows. It hits them some by the output really falls off sharply. the resonant frequency of the sub is 21hz, and the manufacturer reccomends 1.5-1.75 for a ported box.

1.69cu ft net volume including the sub. I was thinking of gluing some polyfill to the sides of the box, and doing a 3" port so that it doesn't have to be really long. I just don't have the room for a bigger port. I could probably even make some of the port external to keep from taking up box volume.
