Hey guys need to the board and very interested in seeing what everyone has to say. I hope everyone got some new stuff for christmas this year. What I'm dealing with is pretty simple.

I'm putting a system in my boat and just trying to get a general idea of what kind of amps or amp i need to push my speakers. I talked to a friend of mine that does this for a living and he was saying i need two or even three amp but to me three sounds almost over doing it??

speakers used:

boat has six alpine 6x9's and one 12 inch jlw3 subwoofer

wakeboard tower has 4 kicker 6.5's

please let me know what you think i need to get as far as channel, watts and so forth. Thanks so much for everyones help and time again.

Yeah, that'd need 2 or 3 amps... maybe 2 4 channel amps... 2 pairs alpine 6x9s on channels 1 and 2 of amp 1, 1 pair on channels 3 and 4... and then 4 kickers on channels 1 and 2 of amp 2, and the sub bridged on channels 3 and 4 of amp 2

if you even get what im saying lol

thanks guys for your responses thus far. I def. get what your saying as far as the channels for the sets of 6x9s. The reason you have 6 speakers is because you need to put two in the back two where the driver seat area is and 2 in the front of the boat where people ride. With out the last two the people in the front can't hear clear music due mostly to wind and water noise and so on. Hope this helps with the details

Tweeters would just be a headache IMO, especially in an open air set up. The 6x9's should cover you, especially if you get some power to them.

You might consider running a set of 6x9's off the HU as a way of keeping it to two amps.

One big 4 ch (200x4 @ 2 ohms) --

2 ch to run the tower speakers at 2 ohms stereo

2 ch to run 4 6x9's

2 HU ch to run the remaining 2 6x9's -- this might actually be a good idea if one pair of 6x9's are near the driver.

One 300-500w mono amp for the w3.

Simple(ish), effective, easy(er) to wire.

Hope you have a good sized alt, a lot of marine alts are pretty small.

that sounds just about what I'm looking at doing just saw a few tweeters on a buddy's boat and didn't know if it was a good idea or over kill. I was thinking about buying two amps for all the 6x9's and one just for the sub. But I think trying to put three amps on a boat is too much so I'll go for just two and do it like that and the deck for some watts to. I'll be buying the amps today and had a few tweeters I could get my hands on so was just shooting the question out there. I did want to thank you guys for helping me so much.
