Ok so while I decide/buy/change my mind/slowly build my future setup i'll be throwing in a temporary substage and want your opinion/expertise on if it will be louder than my planned one?

everything is ready togo just need to get the box done or bought

info:

BMW e39 sedan

140A alt 1/0 gauge all around

Red Top in the trunk(main battery) also have 2 small shuriken's on standby(will be used for future setup)

Both setups will be subs back port back

Kenwood ddin with 4v pre-outs

no sound mats on temp setup but trunk, doors, and partial cabin will be for future setup

temporary setup:

B2 AS12 MKII D2 - 600rms

Slot ported box 1.5-2cf net tuned low 30s

MB Quart ONX1.1600D @1 ohm so maybe a clean 1250-1450watts

Planned Setup:

(2) Sundown SA-8 V2 D4 - 500rms each

Slot ported box 1.6cf net shared chamber tuned to 32-34hz

JL HD1200/1 @ 1 or 4 depending on imp rise 1200watts

box position will be against the back seat between the wheels

The two sa8s should be louder due to the increase in motor force. The pair of sa's should have a combined bl of 27-30 maybe more compared to the say bl of 15 of the single sub. These numbers might not be accurate but there just examples anyway.

The sa8s will more than likely drop just as low as the twelve even tune higher due to speaker design as well.

But output cant simply be placed on any single characteristic like Bl because that would mean a sa8 d4 would be louder than a d2 given the same setting

The 12 does have more surface area vs the combined motor force of the 8s

Also have to take in account that its a trunk space and it takes longer for a 12 to form a soundwave so the 8s maybe louder inside the car vs the 12 outside the car (dont know the exact science just speaking from my limited knowledge)

Doubling bl using multiple subs doesn't tell the whole story.. you still have to look at total cones area, xmax and.mms to gain an idea of what kind of extra displacement potential you have. Anyway one 12 bs 2 8s is going to bee close... Your temp and final setup won't be too drastically different.

Also it does NOT take longer for a larger speaker to form a Soundwave.. as soon as the speaker moves it is displacing air and makinh sound.. 40hz means.a.speaker is moving back and forth 40x per second. That'd true if we are talking about an 8 or a 21. Only speed component really comes in with bl. Higher bl motors push the cone.with greater force so the cone moves faster... This creates greater displacement which is how we usually view it. More distance from.its resting point on the same power. Again this doesn't effect the speed that you hear the sub moving, just how loud.it is

I think what i meant was a larger drivers waves need more space(distance) to fully form... Longer was bad choice of words didnt mean to refer to time but i guess ur right in that that would probably apply to 18"+ and maybe a smaller car

pics of the e39 please
dont mind the m badge on the side its from the previous owners original side moldings, until i find a new pair of chromeless ones

Nice E39 man....She's shinny //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

U should swap out those orange side markers to clears to match the rest of the clears on ur ride....

I have an E39 in my stable as well.... I just put in the All Aluminum Zionsville Radiator and electric fan mod in mine in anticipation of an ESS Supercharger.

Here's my E39 540i/6
