Will I blow my sub?

Ok, I have a 5 cubic foot box tuned to 34hz for TWO ALPINE TYPE R's. A shop got done telling me to wire my amp at 4 ohm (giving my subs 350w each) but i want to wire them at 1 ohm (850w each) and he said they would FOR SURE Blow. They also said that the box is WAYYYYYYYY to big for type r's, and they say alpines specs dont lie. WTF? All I heard here was 2-2.5 for a type r, so i got a 5 cube box for 2. WILL THEY BLOW?

others say theirs take 800+ watts, do a search for type r and read some first hand reviews

run my two 12in type-r's at 1250watts each in a 5cubes at 32hz...all i can say is...wow

oh btw...from my experience with local shops...they dont know S***. Come here first and search before you go to them unless you know for sure the shop has people in there who know what they are doing.

From what i've heard the box is too big for 2 R's and that they will laugh at 850w. I hear of people running them at 1kw + daily. I guess the only thing you would have to look out for is mechanical damage with over extension. Start off with low gain and work it up a little until you're satisfied with how it sounds. Or set it with a DMM. If its too high (bottoms out subs) turn it down.
