just wondering if having your gains set too high will cause your amp to go into protect. because it is either the gains set to high or a bad ground for me, something is causing it to go into protect. I have enough power, cable and the correct impedence so that is not it, other than that I can't seem to figure out what is going on. It can't possibly be a bad amp because I bought it from toxic tuan here on the forums and he said they worked perfectly, he seems to be a great seller from my standpoint.

Does the amp instantly go into protect once it powers on? Or does it play for some time and then go into protect?

Give us a more indepth description of the behavior.

Have you tried turning the gain down?

powerbass xa3000d bought from tuan, plays fine until I crank the volume to 23/35 on the alpine HU, The impedance from the dual 2 is fine I am confidant in my wiring there. I can listen to it at moderate levels but when I hit it hard protect. after about 2 seconds. I have enough power to run this thing, trust me... And no I have not turned the gain down yet, I am going to throw a DMM on it this afternoon and see what I need to do.

amp can go into protect if

1. the ohms on the sub(s) is less that what the amp can handle

soulution a. -- rewire the subs to a higher ohm load

soulution b. get subs that can match the amp or an amp theat can match the subs.

2. the amp is pulling too much power from the battery/alt.

soulution a. try BIG 3, a good battery, or a new alt.

soulution b. try a capacitor. a lot if folks here may hate the Ideia but its better thatn nothing

the sub is a brand new RE MT 18 dual 2 ordered directly by me from RE, it is suppose to be dual 2, can someone tell me how to check the coils to check the impedance. Also I am going to reset the gains again this afternoon with new batteries in my DMM, hey I am ready to try anything...

directly, no. but higher power output means higher currents all around. the amp may be protecting itself thermally, which seems unlikely. if the ground or power wire is not good, try testing the +12V power input. if the DC voltage drops below around 10V it probably means there is an issue.

I checked my gain with a DMM and they were set extremely toooo high, somewhere a little over 3/4 and when I set it by the DMM it went down to about where 1/4 would be, I have not tested yet to see if it will go into protect but hopefully it will not.
