will deadening a birch box do much?

got a box from stang awhile back, and it kills, but im not sure if its my subs or what, but some of those low notes my subs dont seem to want to hit, particularity one song comes to mind, it has this note so low that you can see the car vibrate, and hear the magnets, but no bass note, i showed my friend and his dad and they said "simple, put deadener in it".... i had asked the stang previously about this and he said hes never heard of anyone doing it, thoughts?

they're talking about stuffing the box to make the subs think there's more volume, the reason it helps on the low notes is because the response curve changes and the -3db point is a lower frequency, sometimes you sacrifice top end freq in doing this though.

all boxes do that, every single one that ive heard does it. there are some low notes that you dont hear but shake everything. which was my biggest complain when i got into this. you cant "hear" my system you see it more than hear it lol. but no its just your box and tuning ive never heard anyone doing such a thing either

yea, you usually don't "stuff" a vented enclosure ... if that is what they were referring to.... All boxes will reach a note low enough that you just don't hear the note, but see shiz move. That is normal. It just depends on tuning, ect .. when that actually occurs ....

alrighty haha ill assume its just a low note //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif it still goes insane, finisihng making it look pretty and im gunna add updated pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

when you dont have enough volume or end up with less internal volume than you thought it's a good way to get the volume you want. the reason why we dont see it so much is because boxes larger than ~5 cubes get diminishing returns when stuffed with polyfill. more vented enclosures get stuffed than you'd think. you can get up to a 20-30% "gain" in volume when you stuff the enclosure properly.

obviously the best option will always be a properly sized box but some of the disadvantages of a box too small can be mitigated this way

Put it on audacity's spectrum analyzer and find out what note.

Deadening the box wont do much. Thats only if you have excess resonance, this is just a note that's too low, Deadening wont help it hit lower.

your box design needs to change if you want different response.

i'll add some ultratrouch radiant barrier to the inside of a vented box to eliminate acoustic resonance, just staple it to the walls to not obstruct airflow.

UltraTouch 48 in. x 24 ft. Radiant Barrier-30000-11424 - The Home Depot

i also use this stuff under MLV, in doors (with 1 mil PVC waterproofing), and other places in the home (such as over windows to reject heat).

i absolutly love this box! its perfect for me haha, i was just curious if they were right or not, If anyone truely cares i can tell you the song and the minute mark haha
