Will An Alpine SW12D4 be an upgrade over my American Bass XD1044?

I just ordered it, but I probably shoud've talked to you guys first lol. I got the Alpine sub and a new box to replace my American bass. I suppose I still have time to cancel though if you guys think its a bad idea. Im keeping my Hertz HCP1D Amp at 2ohms, 700w rms. Will the new sub be louder and/or deeper?

Depends on the enclosure really. Is this the sws, swr or swx?Assuming that it’s the swr, it probably is a little upgrade, but it all depends on your box.
I can send direct links to everything. Here is the sub I ordered

Heres the box I ordered

And heres the previous box

Man you guys get nailed on prices. For 250 dollars you could have done a lot better if you could have had a company ship it up there. Also build a box and the difference will be night and day compared to a Atrend box, those are known to fall apart sometimes.

I actually got it on sale for $198, so not as bad. So what I ordered is a no go?

Nothing wrong with Alpine as they are nice subwoofer when in the right box. But if you can I would build a ported custom box for it. Sonicelectronix.com shows it as needing Minimum 1.0 Cubic Feet and 1.5 Maximum Cubic Feet for Ported. In all seriousness if you have the ability to build a ported box then do so. I would contact @Buck for a design along with the room you have, the music you listen to and what not. Also if you have a friend that can do the cutting of the wood then go that route as all you need then is glue, screws and then carpet for it. 39hz looks to be a little high to me but Buck would know better.

I think you'd be better off with a AB TNT personally. Alpines aren't bad subs though, just a little pricey for what they are. If you only paid $200, it may be a moot point. I can definitely make that sub loud with a proper box design, if you have any ability to build or have a friend who can.

Sonic says it but then also says 250-600 max rms. I wouldn't run it the full 600 watts all the time

And after looking if it was me I think I would have the Hertz they have in the SS12D2 yeah it is 1,000 watts rms but you won't damage a subwoofer with not enough power can always upgrade the amplifier as well down the line to match the rms output. Hertz makes some nice subwoofers as well. Can still run it at 2ohms or 1ohm in the future if you upgrade your amplifier to a 1ohm capable mono-block amplifier. Alpine is nice but I think I would have gone up a series in their lineup.

Okay, I'll return it and get something else then. If I get it off Ebay, I might go for a 15 instead then. All I listen to is rap, so that'll match together well.

Should I just save up and get the Alpine R?

The type s is different now than when I used them. The sws-12 used to be 300 watts rms. The newer s-w12 is now a higher rms than it once was I see. The type R used to be one of the best bang for buck subs on the market, but I hear that they are not what they used to be.

You want loud and durability, or like "SQL" and durability or pure SQ?
Although i do want good sound quality, most of the rap i listen to I just want to be able to have the 808s boomin'. So loudness and durability, while still retaining some decent quality
