Im currently running referance 5x7/6x8's in my 1996 explorer and dont like them very much, so im looking to upgrade. The explorer calls for 5.25 round, but i was just wondering if i could fit 6.5's in there with no problem, i dont really want to do much cutting, if any at all.

Yes, I did it in my explorer.

take the 5x7 speaker, and trace around it, and where the screw holes are. Then, put a 6.5 on top of it, trace around it, and cut around the outside with a jigsaw. then cut out the middle with a jigsaw.

can you make me some plans for those? what would be the difference between MDF and plastic ones?
Get 1/4" - 3/4" MDF

Trace The 5x7" Speaker on the MDF

Then Center The 6.5" on the MDF

Cutout the hole..

Paint Black & Your Done..

Car stereo shops sell abs versions from Metra ...American International....Aamp...etc if you feel uncomfortable about making some...you should be able to pick up a pair for around $10.00 Just make sure your speakers fit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can this be done in my grand am? My stock speakers are 4x6 and i wanna get some 5.25 components. Can i do the same thing to my opening?

The thing i would be worrying about is it clearing the door panel because its only a stock speaker grill attached to the door panel.
