so i just got a new vr2000d that i hooked up to my 2 12" L7's in a box thats 5 cu ft and tuned to 32 hz. i was playing it pretty hard on my way home and i started to smell somthing kinda funny. i know the first thing you'd think is the voice coils. but it's not them. i know what voice coils smell like when they're bunning cuz i've fried a few of them myself. at first i was worried it kinda smelled like eletronic frying but i smelt inside the box and it was coming from inside it. any ideas to what this could be i'm smelling??

two options really, either voicecoil gettin a wee bit warm, or excess material on/in your subwoofer burning off (which is normally common in new subwoofers)

From the sounds of it, the L7's arent new, but if your pushing them perdy hard, you could just be burning something off that wasnt burned off before.

My guess is that its the voicecoil though, even if you dont think it is. Especially if the L7's arent new

just the subs getting hot and the heat from them, i have the same smell from mine and can smell in the entire truck when playing loud for more than 10-20mins and i have my gains set right and i aint overpowering them or clipping them just the smell they give off

well they aren't new but they aren't old by all means. i've only had them for about a month tops. but for that time i've pushed both of them with just a zx750.1 so they hadn't been pushed untill now. and now i'm feeding them anywhere from 900 to 1200 rms per sub so they are being pushed pretty hard.

i did feel the top of the subs and they were pretty hot but not really super hot you know?

u answered your own question dude
i'm just checking to see what people think on this one because i know for a fact they know a hell of a lot more then i do on this. and where it didn't smell like any voice coil i've ever smelled i'm curious to see what other people think it might be

unless you have roadents running around that may have died in there no just heating the coils maybe back down on the gain just a bit
