why the hell do i keep smoking amps??!!

exactly, i bought the amp because they're friggin bulletproof, and i have a solid electrical. my crossfire worked for a couple weeks, then popped a capacitor. what in the **** is goin on??!!
is your 200.1 one of the old style ones or new ones?
mine is the black old style

those look so much nicer, and from what i hear are a little more stout. the new ones are ****ed powerful, but just look like lanzar amps to me, the logo is weak. not that it matters what it looks like if it wangs.

You say you had the 200.1 set a 2/3 gain right? I'd have to go with input voltage as the issue also, even though your deck was down at a respectable level. I've heard of several amps smokin due to high gain settings. It may or may not be irrelevant, but back in the beginning, when gain was a volume knob to me, my friends and I blew several amps with the gains up past 1/2 at proper ohm loads. Approximately how much input do you think was going to the amp? any EQ's or anything??? Just trying to help.

i set them by ear, figured that amp had more than those subs could handle at that impedence, so i turned it up until i got close to their limits then backed it off a hair.
had the deck at 22 out of 35 and SW output on deck at +1 out of -5 to +5, gain at about 2/3.

amp was mounted on the box but box is solid as hell and braced right behind where the amps are, was no flexing or even vibration.
I have a feeling you clipped it and it fried. You are running a ported box, it would take an immense amount of power for it to reach its mechanical limits. How do you know when you reached the thermal limits of your subs? Can you see in the infrared?

At that impedance even the slightest clipping can cause problems...

No way an amp mounted directly to the box with that kind of power wasn't getting vibrated HARD. Clipping is more likely than a physical issue...but clipping the amp should have caused protection repeatedly, not a dead short + burning which is why i'd suspect physical damage.
