why the hell do i keep smoking amps??!!

a ferrari can do 230 mph (or something like that) but if you drive it like that its going to fall apart sooner than later, seems like you did nothing wrong, just anything (car wife amps body mind) pushed too hard for too long will fail. when you next power your subs, see if you can get the load down to 2 or 4 ohms and make it easier on the amps?

might help?

i say check the resistance of one coil, unhooked from everything else. cause the 1.3 sounds like a dual 2 setup, not dual 1

of course this would only make the problem more of a mystery cause he would be running a safer load

Also...just to test it out. Touch the two probes of your DMM together...I bet you get at least .2-.3 ohms of resistance. That would account for the higher reading...all DMMs arent perfect, especially if they are cheap. 2nd like I said earlier, if you were playing the subs recently the coils may be a little warm, also accounting for the higher reading.

all 4 coils are showing 1.2 dcr. touching the probes shows .6. its a cheap GE i picked up at wal mart. the coils shouldnt be warm, they were only played for about 2 minutes, and loud for 5-10 seconds.

this just doesnt make sense. i would think if it was going to fail from being run too hard, it would do it during one of my 10-20 minute slamming sessions, not 5 seconds into one, the first time it was turned up today. with my old rl-p's, i wired them to 1 ohm on my crossfire which is only rated for 2 ohms, and ran it quite a bit harder than i did this system, for almost a year, and it got hot, but never flinched.

from what you can see in the pictures, does it look repairable? if i do run bass again, it will probably be a d1 btl 18 wired to 2 ohms, but i'm having my doubts right now.

i set them by ear, figured that amp had more than those subs could handle at that impedence, so i turned it up until i got close to their limits then backed it off a hair.

had the deck at 22 out of 35 and SW output on deck at +1 out of -5 to +5, gain at about 2/3.

amp was mounted on the box but box is solid as hell and braced right behind where the amps are, was no flexing or even vibration.

i ran my 200.1@.35 for months with no problems, and on a stock electrical system
exactly, i bought the amp because they're friggin bulletproof, and i have a solid electrical. my crossfire worked for a couple weeks, then popped a capacitor. what in the **** is goin on??!!

is your 200.1 one of the old style ones or new ones?

i blow subs.....i have yet to smoke an amp
never blown a sub, other than the vega series i smoked for the fun of it. never had any trouble with amps until now, and they had to be the 2 most expensive amps i've ever owned //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif
