I hate taxes, and for this reason. i have no problem paying taxes to help the military and to pave our roads, but not to help the poor. I'm selfish, I know. But the thing that irked me is that I paid for my school all by myself (a little FAFSA help, but mostly loans), I applied for food stamps because I had a spread out schedule. Ended up having to spend 7-8 hours a day at school, and didn't really have time for a full time job and studying and homework, so bills plus food was almost impossible, and I lived off campus with my lady, who also worked minimum wage about 30-40 hours a week. You know what they told me? Because I'm a student I'm not eligible, and because I live in the home, nobody is eligible. WHAT! Are you serious? Its because welfare is a liberal thing to make the poor lazy and keep them controlled. A guy like me is going to school to be successful, and if they funded me, they'd by funding a future conservative and they don't want that. Now I'm sure I would have gotten a lot more assistance had I been a liberal arts major or a teaching major, but given I was going into a non union high IQ type field, I'd likely not be a liberal, so they oppress me. And they still do, I'm on the fringe of tax bracket to move me to upper middle class. If I made 5K less a year, I'd take home a little more, that is pathetic, I do however avoid that with a 401K, until they decide to double tax that.
Guy at work came up with a great idea and I completely agree with it. He said we should stop taxing paycheck, and tax goods. That way your drug dealers and guys making tips and money under the table all have to pay taxes(Fed, State, and Local) on the things they buy, SS and medicare(although I'd love to kill this tax all together) would still come off your paycheck. I like this, taxes would likely go down because of the large number of people paying in. For those who don't need/want a lot of things wont have to pay as many taxes. I'd love this system or a flat tax. I shouldn't be penalized for being successful.
Sorry for the tax rant, once these fingers get going, its hard to stop em.
