why does the south and truckers still fly the confederate flag?

Let's not forget that the reason many say that it was a state's rights issue is that the Southern states wanted the "right" to keep slavery legal - which is what they would have done if secession was successful. So yes, it was about state's rights - but it is disingenuous to say that slavery wasn't a main component in the argument.

x2. It's not 100% about slavery. I don't fly one but I agree 100% state's rights > federal rights.

Unfair taxes, states rights, and the feeling that the south was not represented well in the US government was the MAIN reasons for the war, but slavery also played a part.

I am from Kentucky about 30 minutes from the school that got all the press for having a rebel flag and mascot, Allen Central, that got all the press in the winter...

They/we fly the flag for pride........

I have SEVERAL black friends who wear rebel flag caps/shirts......

I am from Boston but moved about 1 1/2 hours to the western part of the state where a lot of inbred hicks live and they fly it out here like crazy. I can't imagine they all from the south. Never saw it in the city or even in the burbs just out here in Hickville, MA

If you've ever seen the music video "Bia Bia", you'll see that Lil John rocks a confederate shirt and I think from one of David Banner's music videos he has the confederate flag wrapped around him.

It actually weirded me out when i saw that
Diff people fly it for different things. That's what's so hard for people to understand. It's like a mixed message. One person can have it to represent slavery and another to represent where they're from and the pride they have.

*Shrugs* It's like many other things in this world; left to interpretation. I think a lot more people should ask rather than assume though....like the person who started the thread. Glad they asked.

seems like all the white, beer chuggin, curved billed hat wearin, honkey tonk guys wave it
Im the farthest possible from that and i have 5-6 im my room right now.. hell I know black folks with confederate flag tats.. Its a southern repentative thing.. its really no big deal.. There not really any hostiliity against it around here from white blacks etc..

and in bia bia they also burn the flag.. I would never do that.. to ANY flag

much like the term "white pride". white people aren't allowed to proud and not be racist.

Maybe the flag hit the ground....?? lol.

And KC; I agree. I don't need to say that I'm proud of being white though. There is a group of mexicans up here that have brown pride written all over their vehicles. I could really care less, but they try to be hard *****.

There is a difference though between white pride and white power. If someone gets offended by white pride, tell them to **** themselves.

Either way, it's all opinions.
