Why does my system sound like crap? HELP!!!

rlcowboy gave you about the best advice so far. Most of the guys told you something like "you have crap equipment so that's what it's going to sound like". Well, obviously you allready know your equipment isn't that good. I would take rlcowboy's advice and upgrade your subs and box first. Buy the subs first and try putting some dacron or polyfill (pillow stuffing) inside your enclosure. One of the guys mentioned half-filling the enclosure. That's the right thing to do. Also, already mentioned, your gain and crossover settings are very important. IM me and I'll talk you through adjusting your gain settings. There isn't one magical brand of subwoofer to go with. JL Audio is a good sub, Treo makes an awsome sub, even Powerbass is good if you want to save some money (not as good as JL or Treo but still not bad for the money). The Treo TSi is their entry model sub and it retails for about $150 or less. I could recommend a dozen or so other subs that would work fine. These are just the first couple that came to mind. Treo makes an awsome amp too. Feel free to send me a message if I can help you out. I hope this helps.

heya guys,

just an update

the sony amp dosent have an adjustable LPF, so I think thats part of my problem. I plan on ordering two of the MAW 12's here shortly. My question is, i've never had a dual voicecoil sub before, how do I connect it to my amp? Do I just connect the two postives and two negatives together and run them as one?

Then after that is ordered i'll get a new amp and box, but first im workin on the subs because lightning audio bolts ****.

I'll keep you all updated and post some pics here in a little bit from a "starting point" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Well, first off, if your amp does not have a crossover that should be the first thing you address. Buy a 2-way electronic crossover. You can probably find a good used Audio Control 2XS or something similar for less than $50. Check the forum here or maybe even Ebay.

*update*

I have done alot of research online the past few days and have come to the following conclusion:

I have enough for one ALpine type-R from ebay right now ($135), i'll have enough for another one Thursday. After I get the subs, I want to get a new amp. I need some recomendations for a good amp to power two 12" Apline type-r's, and what ohm rating they should be for what kind of amp that would be best for around $200. THen i'll get a new box for em after all thats taken care of and go from there.
