Why does my sub smell like rotten eggs?

This is kinda out there but it might be your voice coils making that smell, rotten egg smell is the smell of sulfide which could be coming from the voice coils or from a material used in the amp, just depends on what metals are used in the production of the amp/subs. Its more likely that it is coming from a battery though, Do you have any batteries in area of the subs? Or were the subs stored by any batteries (non dry cell).

it means the gains are up too much. turn the gain down and restet the gains with a digital multimeter. see the amp setting sticky in the amp section

means you are over working the amp and sending dirty power wich will sooner or later kill your sub

Then thats most likely where the rotten egg smell is coming from. I would have that battery inspected to ensure there are no leaks or malfunctions.

Its an mtx 5500 (i know, shitty sub but its temporary for a month) in a 2.8 CU 35 Hz enclosure....the gains are around mid way....not sure where they should be set to...

if your not sure what they should be set to then you should restet them withn a DMM. if its set too high right now your damaging your amp and subs

just smell inside the port and you will know if its the sub. push on the cone a little
