Why does my ipod sound like crap when hooked up to deck?

move around your cable in the deck and in your ipod. Sometimes being in the wrong position will make it sound horrid. Also try another cable, the cable you're using may be bad.

I don't know about the turning the iPod down...I leave my Zune at volume 20 of 20 every day in my car and it sounds better than cds I play. (Thanks to 320kbps)

new cable.or.

turn your IPOD down.

usually on half volume for ipod, the sound is undistorted, and clear. Then adjust accordingly with your cd player.
Oh, and BTW-- this is because the iPod is more or less clipping the signal to produce a higher output.

I.E. 110% Volume. You only have to turn it down a bit from full volume to achieve undistorted chaos.

But most higher-end HU's will factor this out.

My Pioneer DEH-P6900UB is teh ubar when it comes to that. I've never had distortion.

but my iPod is messed up and the internal volumes are all fubar'd.

x2EQ on the iPod always distort the sound.

But if that's not working, try a new cable... and if that doesn't work, your HU is garbage. Use it as target practice for throwing canyouheartmatt at.
x3, samething happened to me when I hooked up my iPod, but just messed with the settings on the iPod and bingo, bango, sounds much better. Still not CD quality, but good enough, I guess. That is at their highest rate as well. I guess I have golden ears or something.

My settings are volume on iPod locked at 1/4 and EQ off. I use my CD player for all the adjustments.
