so i bought a new laptop and it came loaded with vista.

Dell Inspiron 1521

AMD Turion 64 x2

250 gb hd

2gb ram

cd/dvd burner

15.4 widescreen

649 on clearance at best buy bnib not an open box

think i got a pretty good deal considering it was 1000 regular price and i built a new inspiron on dells site with the same features and it was 1100. anyway.

why does everyone hate vista so much? is it as simple as most people hate change or is there something more to it?

also if i decide i want xp later can i use my xp disc from my previous dell?

It runs slow if you don't have enough RAM
so being that i have 2 gb im good? seems to run pretty fast to me but of course for the last year i have been using my 6 year old HP so everything is better than that.

Vista blows XP out of the water....most people have nowhere near enough RAM to run with it....and they also have WAY to many programs in their startup....built my own system and it only takes 30 seconds to fully boot up and about 15 seconds to shut down....you want a nice fast system build your own....nothing "hidden" within the machine that way.

if i had a complaint it would be that it takes a couple minutes to startup. but shut down is almost instant.

i kinda did that. within hours of owning it i downloaded microsoft office 2007 and got a bunch of spyware so i formatted the drive and only loaded stuff i wanted back onto it . so there isnt and "hidden" stuff anymore

once the screen pop up on startup its good to go, i can start opening up screens instantly but going from the black dell screen to the vista screen takes a minute.

im running 32 bit

I have been running vista for a year now, with 1 GB ram, absolutely no problem, the system is very fast, 35 seconds startup time and 10 seconds shutdown. The only drawback is that it pops up too many msg boxes.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif....i have xp running on a 2.8 ghz processor with 4gig of ram and it takes 15 seconds from pushing the power button to when i have the internet open. shutdown is less than that. even with vista on a good machine if you don't turn off all the bs pretty sh!t it is slower; Vista OS requires too much!

so basically if you have a good system and can accept change its overall good? i heard about a bunch of bugs and what not it had. security issues and what not. i heard some people randomly turn on their system and itll lock up and make you call microsoft in order to prove that you didnt steal it.

You either built your own system or reformatted after you bought it...never seen a proprietary machine boot up that fast with XP
yeah i said in my previous post within hours of buying it i tried to download ms office 2007 and got a bunch of spyware so i just formatted it and started from scratch. loaded what i wanted and kept off what i didnt.

i dont like vista at all. most pre built PCs that have it are way to slow and dont have enough RAM to back it up. and the number one thing that keeps me from it is it is too user friendly, and that is very annoying. XP FTW
