Why do some brands knowinly under-rate subs?

This is why online debates are basically useless.
There is no debate. I'm saying that more port area will yield more output. This keeps people from thinking they need to give their woofer a bajillion watts to achieve the output they desire... but the box builders have circled the wagons and there is no point in me arguing this... so I give up. you guys just circle jerk... I don't want any part of it.

For the record I did not choose a side.

If I have to though....

To be honest I side with you on this one.( to an extent..as application and the sub will alter all physical aspects of the enclosure)

Ok so lets review, lol, so lets add more port, to keep tuning the same the box cubes must be more, he was at his limit on space already, so only other option is to increase tuning to keep net the same, owner didn't want to do that. Will port area increase output sure it will, but you will lose your bandwidth at the same time. There is nothing wrong with his enclosure.

And to be clear if and only IF this was done for SPL only it would be done a completely different way.

I can not comment directly on the enclosure you designed/built. Nor do I wish to get into a "debate". With in the limits the owner set I'm sure it does just fine. Is increasing port area always the solution? Nope, it is not.

Depending on the actual application that the driver will be used in, more or less may be needed to achieve the desired results. However, when you adjust the power level the response of the enclosure will be altered a bit. All though it is by a small margin(in many cases not even noticed).

With 90% of this forum and most audio installs in general digging this far into the output of an enclosure is simply just nit picking at what we all understand and the rest do not worry much about.
