Why do people think SPL scores make their cars "loud"?

Why do you dumb motherfuckers that post up scores and claim how "loud" you are when really loudness is an entirely different perception. You should be saying "i have a ****** small car so it holds more pressure brah". Loud to the ear>loud on meter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i use to think like that til i figured out there was a big difference between sound and pressure. when i first started i thought my car was

loud which it was however it ****** on a TL. now if i seal up my blazer its not that loud. but roll down the windows and its 10x louder

Same reason 95% of the userbase here thinks a couple subs and an amplifier is "a system" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

there are a large number of us around here that do compete, so the numbers are important to us, not saying thats the only thing that all of us think about.

with my new setup im going to have a daily box tuned to 30 for normal driving and a burp box with a lot of port area tuned to 48 for comp's so i can get the best of both worlds.

also its a little easier to quantify loud with a number than it is with a term that has different meanings to each person (slams, bumps, wangs, knocks, hammers...) the list goes on forever.

i didnt know that cars that do 150db plus are still classified as quiet.
You aint going to find many cars that do 150db + and still seem quiet

I agree. If you think that numbers do not mean you are loud, try sitting in a few cars that do good numbers.

Well it is Sound Pressure Level //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif a number is a number regardless at 25hz or 50hz. If that's what you're chasing then get it done, if you ain't chasing numbers than don't bash the guys who are. Cause its a definite answer they have more time in their cars then most. No different from ricer cars, to donks, to lifted trucks.

the crx with the single 8 that does it at 60+hz?
i know there arent a lot of them but they do exist.
That is a little stretched, however, yes if you are actually loud then a number should not be hard to achieve. If you only think you are loud, then you claim to be loud yet shy away from a meter do to fear of the truth.

Agreed for the most part. I don't agree with the references though.
