Why do people like Coldplay so much?

It sounds like Dave Matthews singing for Moby. Some dude going "OOOOoooooOOOOooooooooooOOOOOOOoo" in a falsetto voice over a repetitve beat.
I swear, taste for music nowadays gets worse and worse.
Not a big fan of Coldplay, but to use a comparison to DMB as an insult is poor form. DMB has some really good stuff, especially the live versions.

who says your taste in music is "the right" taste?
I don't understand how people can say music is terrible because it isn't like other artists they listen to...
Because compared to some jazz, some rock and most classical music, synthesized beats and a few chords hold no water. Catchy doesn't make a song good to me. Songs that require a wide range of talents, and have a variety of sounds and instruments are what make good music to me. Have you ever listened to "Starship Trooper" by Yes? That song has such a huge range of sounds and subtleties, and every member of the band gets his turn to shine. Everything I've heard from Coldplay just sounds so boring, slow and same-ish.

And yes, I know that's awfully subjective, but it's not hard to tell that there's little talent in most pop music out there nowadays.

Listen to Dave Matthews' falsetto babblings and Coldplay's falsetto babblings. Sound just alike to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I will say, though, that there are a few DMB songs that gripped me.

IDK, I am more a fan of the complete DMB than DM the vocalist.

Not a fan, but I listen to them from time to time.

I imagine they may be crap to you, but I am sure he is perfectly happy with his shitty music, lol!

Just imagine........we could all put out some shitty music........and we would all be rich!

That is just so false though, lol!

I disagree completely but then again you and I have never agreed on music much.

Coldplay is simply a brilliant band. Now I will say that Viva La Vida is a different style and taste compared to their other CD's. Hell it took me a while to like X&Y. But, Coldplay has pure raw energy in a lot of songs and deep meaningful lyrics.. I would say the music they make and produce to the public is 90% better then most of the new age stuff the radio decides to air today.

I will say I think they should give Joe Satriani money though for Viva La Vida, as it is clearly the same song. But I view it as, Gary Jules covering Mad World by Tears for Fear. They took a good song and made it that much better. So take it for what it's worth.

To sum: Coldplay is a band that knows how to capture emotion and please the crowd. Chris Martin also obviously portrays events and mis-haps in his life wonderfully. Just litsen to A Rush Of Blood To The Head and Parachutes. Those two albums alone should be what they are remembered by. One of their biggest inspirations is Radiohead. You can really tell on tracks like "Such a Rush." "Politiks." and "Rainy Day." Which actually Rainy Day to me isn't that good but you can still hear it. It should also be noted that I've seen them three times in concert and they put on one HELL of a show.

gonna have to agree with WSW. The bands sound nothing alike. Chris's Vocal range is much higher then Dave's. Also Carter Beauford is on a completely different playing level then Coldplay's Will Champion. Hell Dave's chords that he uses are more complex then anything Johnny comes out with.

But, both bands are great at what they do. Just because I personally feel that the other band members are more musically complex and better at what they do does not merit me writing off the band. Because I like both and have seen both in concert.

also I'm pretty sure Dave can't even come close to hitting Falsetto. Now Elton John or the Bee Gee's, yes. Hell maybe even The Dream :p
