Why do I buy butt connectors???

If you solder the cable and then crimp it you aren't getting a good of connection here is why, solder is less conductive than the metal in the cable and also when you crimp the raw cable the little strands touch more of the metal inside of the crimp. Greater surface area == better connection.
Also, I have always used butt connectors for installs from Car audio to Two-Way radios. I have NEVER had a problem with them being slow or coming apart. There is a reason that high end RF connectors don't use solder anymore either, crimp FTW!
cool info didnt know that . when i solder i just give the wires a quick tap on the center to kinda glue em together then use a but connector on the rest of the wire that bare copper. should have said that in the first post i dont tin all the wire just the center .

for me its a must that connects be tight i have the clumsiest Mrs. and kids in the world some how someway they will figure a way to mess something up .

like the time our youngest decided it would be cool to watch a soccer ball bounce off one of my subs sigh. wanted to kill him then i broke out in laughter he is lucky i got a sense of humor.

Heh, I bought a HU once that hey used duct tape to cover their twisted wires... Took forever to get that gunk off the wires.
Low voltage stuff it is usually ok, but in 120 Volt AC situation it's not good to use duct tape because the fibers can conduct some amount of electricity through them...

Didn't believe this, my dad told it to me, until I saw someone get shocked by a connection wrapped in duct tape...
