Butt connectors, or those little blue tubes with metal in them that you have to crimp twice... I have enough of them to last 1000 installs, but guess what, they take twice as long to use as wire nuts! And they don't even work as good! I should just throw them away and buy crimpable wire nuts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

LOL best thread evar.

lollercoaster.... I too have about a million of them, but i think they're easier to deal with than wire nuts, i can never get the wire to stay inside the nut.

wire nuts ftl.
but connectors are ok. (for quick and easy hu installs)

solder and heat shrink ftw for any high end work
X2.. I probably should be doing that right now... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Instead of using buttock connectors for my 8454...

i like the crimpable nylon "pigtail" connectors, if thats what you guys are talking about. only i can never find them locally in packs more than 25. i wanna buy like 100-500.

soldering FTW. More secure connection, better conduction

Ummm, not really.

When you twist two wires together, that's pretty much as good as it'll gets. You won't see any difference worth the extra effort/time between twisting and crimping, etc. vs. twisting and then soldering. . . . . . . As for the secure part.If you properly crimp a wire, you shouldn't be able to pull it out easily.A properly crimped connection won't come apart any easier than a properly soldered/taped connection. Then again these have just been my personal experiences in the couple years I've been installing.Twisting the wires together and using a crimp cap is sufficent enough.

Proof, yet again, that you don't know much. . . . . go put on your momma's little man pajamas and go to bed. It's probably past your bedtime //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

funny i usually solder then use a butt connector .peace of mind FTW.
If you solder the cable and then crimp it you aren't getting a good of connection here is why, solder is less conductive than the metal in the cable and also when you crimp the raw cable the little strands touch more of the metal inside of the crimp. Greater surface area == better connection.

Also, I have always used butt connectors for installs from Car audio to Two-Way radios. I have NEVER had a problem with them being slow or coming apart. There is a reason that high end RF connectors don't use solder anymore either, crimp FTW!
