A ground wire slipping loose and touching the chassis of the amp would do... nothing.

A ground wire slipping loose and touching something with a live 12v in it, however, could create unpleasant results.

So could something with a live 12v flowing through it slipping loose and touching anything other than the appropriate input terminal on the amp.

I call //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif on the installer's story...

sounds like he's counting on you not knowing anything....get yourself educated...this forum is a good place to start...you could also go with someone you know that is knowledgeable about amps...it's a tough call though cause you got it off the net so he's got some leverage as far as being able to blame it on someone other than himself....you might consider buying a really old amp and messing around with it OUTSIDE OF YOUR CAR to learn....some people learn by doing but you have to be really careful...so far you've learned that crossing the negative and positive wires = FIRE. ...NOT COOL inside your car...get someone to help you with your first install and you will learn a lot more than paying some douche bag to do it for you...
