I'm sure there must be more than one thread like this but I'm just a little annoyed at the fact that this seems to happen to me *a lot*...
What I'm talking about is people that have no clue about audio (car or otherwise) or anything else really, that go shooting their mouth of as if they know stuff but have no clue about what they are saying.
My case today was this guy at work. Just for a quick run-down of what I do, I work with [mostly brand new] vehicles from various manufacturers loading, and unloading them from rail cars that transport them and doing pre-logistics and inventory control stuff for the cars...
Anyway today we had a "customer shipped" car (one that someone ships say when they move a far distance like BC to Ontario, etc.) and it was a Benz C-Class and had two different Alpine DIN units in it (one was a monitor the other an Alpine HU).
So the car was dead [battery] and we had to get to the trunk to boost it properly. When we got in there I saw a Focal sub in a nice enclosure in the spare-tyre well. One guy was like "oh cool" and I was like "nice he's got a Focal sub in there! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif " [it was a Focal Poly-Kev sub.] So the next guy starts going on about how Focal is "Bi-Way brand" and "crap" and they guy wasted his time taking out his spare [tyre] for this. (Bi-Way was a bargain-basement retailer in Canada which wento out of business some years ago, however you might compare it to Wal-Mart but even worse, lol. They never sold any electronics or car audio really, beyond clock radios.)
So then I start laughing, like literally laughing. And I just couldn't stand there so I was like "WTF?!?! Do you know what you're talking about? You haven't got a clue about car audio if you're saying that". Then he goes on about how he's been "installing car 'systems' for 12 years" or some BS like that. He starts telling me how JL and stuff like an Alpine Type-R is light years beyond the "Bi-Way brand Focal". And all I can do is burst out laughing more.
Anyway it was a big argument with me telling him he didn't have a clue and him telling me that I was the one that didn't know what I was talking about.
I mean usually this would not bother me, I let the blissfully ignorant be that way but the fact that he tried to make me look stupid in front of other people I didn't like. Especially when it was him that was right out in left field.
I didn't disagree with him that Alpine and JL make decent gear, but he would not let go of his statements that Focal was essentially Wal-Mart brand. I of course asked him if he knew how much a set of Utopia or Utopia BE cost, or if he'd ever even heard of JM Lab and if he knew how much a single Grande Utopia loudspeaker cost. Of course he just contined with his nonsense that he'd been "installing" for x number of years (actually around the same time that I've been 'into' car audio but I didn't bother mentioning that).
How do guys like this exist? LOL. Like it wasn't like was a "Focal-hater" and a "JL-fanboy" or anything like that, he honestly thought he was right in telling me that Focal was a "bargain brand" and was not even comparable to Alpine Type-R. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
The guy was an idiot too, like later he started telling me about how he would never "trust" Focal for anything and how MB Quart is "the best" for a front speakers, components, etc. I of course did not say anything bad about MB, but he refused to even think that Focal was near the level of MB Quart.
In the end I just gave up because the guy clearly has no clue, but honestly I encounter people like this waaay too often. I don't get it. Like I know a good deal about electronics, car audio, home audio, cars in general, etc. and when there's a discussion to be had I can get in on it and make sense, know what I'm talking about, etc. However take something I know nothing about, like skiing--just something random. I have no clue about skiiing, what ski manufacturers/related equipment are good, who's a good skiier, etc. But you don't see me getting into discussions about ski stuff because I've been skiing once or twice and then think I know everything. Why? Because I'll admit "hey I don't know a thing about how good those skiis are".
What's wrong with these people that not only don't know what they're talking about but open their mouth like they're experts when they're obviously the furthest thing from it?
Sorry about the rant/vent, but honestly this whole argument with this guy just leaves me dumbfounded and annoyed...
